Things that Donna gave me

Donna is a family friend, and I think about her quite often because I see her in the treasures she has given to me over the years -- things that might not bring a big price on Ebay, but are valuable to me because of their history and because of the spirit in which they were given. A cookie jar from her childhood because she knows I like stripes, some vintage buttons to add to my collection, a locket that had belonged to her Aunt and a glass platter that she had received on her wedding day. Naturally, Donna will be the recipient of this card. Gouache on chipboard.

Winter by Laila Kujala

The perfect image for today - at least here in snowy Michigan! Teacher and artist, Laila Kujala, painted this sweet image, along with one for Spring, Summer and Fall for her classroom. Originals are painted with acrylic. Laila sent out cards printed with this winter image to her students' families as a holiday & thank you card.

Family Tree by Lydia Hess

This elegant image is from an old pal, Lydia Hess. Lydia's technique uses hands-on artistic methods combined with modern technology to create images that are mysterious and multi-layered. She created a montage using painted images and graphic elements and the result is this lovely digital image with personality and depth.

Reach 2

I wasn't totally satisfied with the previous version so I repainted it with a few changes. I'm sending this one to several people, in the hopes of starting a postcard rally. The incredible collage artist and children's book illustrator Carin Berger, artist and blogger extraordinaire Catherine Thursby will receive this illustration printed on watercolor paper.

Reach

I decided to change the subject to a girl (see sketch below) because I am sending this card to Kyle - who is about to leave her home of 18 years to follow her own star. Gouache on chipboard.

doodling can take you places

I was doodling while I was supposed to be drawing something else (of course). Think I will paint this scene for my next postcard submission.

My sister, Kathy Jackson, sent these two lovely photographs. The first one was sent to me, because she knows that I appreciate this aesthetic from an earlier time as much as she does. (plus we both love that Sinclair dinosaur!) The peaceful, snowy scene at day's end is going to her friends Karen and Suzanne.

A Twofer from Miss Wood

Deb Wood, very excellent friend and design guru at Positive I.D. created these two fun and totally appropos cards. (I want some of that stimulus package!) She is sending one of them to another friend and artist, Chris Purcell. Art was composed digitally from hand drawn elements.

Ethereal Nightscape from Tracy Gallup

Woohoo - another submission! This beautifully dreamy night scene just came in from Tracy Gallup. It is watercolor on watercolor paper. Tracy tells me that Doug is the lucky recipient of this card because they "have seen so many wonders outside out window together...moons with halos, unbelieveable sparkling snow and tree shadows, shooting stars and lacey trees."
